Bridesmaid Duties, Dress Meltdowns and A Weekend in the Peak District…

Last Friday one of my closest friends got married and I had the honour of being her bridesmaid.  We have been discussing plans back and forth for so long that I still can’t believe it has been and gone now. The wedding was held in the most idyllic boutique hotel in the Peak District and we headed up there on Thursday lunchtime ready for a weekend of wedding fun.

The bride looked beautiful, the location was perfect and the wedding was truly great.  It was laid back, relaxed but lots of fun at the same time and I could tell that everyone was really enjoying themselves.  With two small children to look after, the weekend wasn’t exactly stress free for us, but we enjoyed ourselves and our few days of family time as well.

The girls behaved really well considering it was a long day, although the morning of the wedding started with Mads having a huge meltdown over the fact she didn’t want to wear her dress.  After much bribery and persuasion the dress went on but not without many tense words from Mr E.  It is hard on children to be little angels when their routines are so disrupted, as well as being constantly told to quieten down during the service or while the speeches were on, but Mads and LL were lovely for the most part all day.  It was tiring and a little stressful for us though and it’s certainly made me wonder whether we will take them to any weddings in the future as I just didn’t feel like we could relax.  Poor Mr E went to bed with the girls at 9pm as they couldn’t last a minute longer, but I got to stay up and have a few drinks which was nice of him.

I didn’t manage to take a huge number of photos as I was busy with bridesmaid duties, and I didn’t take a single one in the church obviously, but here are a few snaps from my phone and my big camera…

Starting the day off with a glass of bubbly.

All ready to leave for the church.

Looking very cute in her dress, even if trying to get it on her proceeded to cause an epic meltdown.

Vintage records playing outside.

The latest thing she does is to point at everything.

Matching pretty dresses.

Endulging in a cake pop or two.

The colour scheme was blush pinks, creams and greens and it looked beautiful.

My pretty bouquet- was such gorgeous pink colours.

Chatting to the other guests.

Loved this idea, and the desserts were absolutely amazing.  Someone made this Rocky Road which was seriously the best thing I have ever eaten.  Even four slices later!

Can’t beat a cupcake.

Just some of the desserts family and friends made.

Doing the bridesmaid thing.

Mr E did such a good job of looking after the girls all day.

One of my best uni friends and his plus one who dutifully had to play outside with Mads constantly.

My clever friend made these cake toppers herself out of wooden pegs.

Having a chat to the beautiful bride.

Gorgeous curls.

Photo booth fun with bestest uni friends.

My slightly loony family.

I really love that last photograph – really made me smile!

Weddings with children are a whole different ball game to weddings without! Being a bridesmaid as well must have been doubly challenging. Looks like a beautiful day though.

  • Ambi says:

Stunning photographs. How did you manage to become bridesmaid, mom and photographer :) Kudos.

It looks like a really wonderful day and you all look gorgeous.
I remember at my cousins wedding in November little z was constantly stripping off because he didn’t want to wear his little suit and the other half was getting stressed, then I was getting stressed and we almost had a full blown argument in the hall! In the end we let him skid about with half his clothes off. :)

It is hard because you have to try and be relaxed as then they will be relaxed but it is also really tense trying to stop them from making a noise throughout the ceremony and speeches! x

  • Jenny says:

Ahh Katie you were a beautiful bridesmaid. Love the silver dress. At least you can wear it again for something else. I have been a bridesmaid a few times and you can’t actually ever any of mine again. Boo. Lovely lovely photos. You are so talented even the few you did capture were stunning. Wish you lived closer to teach me a thing or two. I am awful and want to learn so much more so badly. I love being a bridesmaid such a honor when your friend asks but there are a lot of duties that come with it. Aren’t there? And you can’t take photos like mad while you are doing it. hahaha Lovely post the bride looked beautiful! What a stunning set up too!

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Looks like a lovely day albeit a little stressful with the little ladies! I want this colour scheme for my wedding I think! x

  • Beautiful, beautiful bride (and bridesmaid). I love the photo booth shots. It looks like you had such an amazing weekend. We took the boys to a wedding in Germany last year. It was such hard work but we have really nice memories of being there and the stressful moments have faded in my mind.

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

We had a really great weekend thanks Rachel, it wasn’t plain sailing and it certainly wasn’t relaxing but we have some lovely memories.x

  • MrsShilts says:

Gorgeous photography Katie, what a beautiful wedding! x

  • Gorgeous photos, looks a lovely! Lissy was flowergirl at my friends wedding last year when she had just turned two and Caitlyn was 7 months – was such hard work because Lissy was so shy walking down the aisle and Caitlyn was unbelievably exhausted and grumpy by the end!! I could hardly walk in the evening from standing up in heels for all the speeches rocking Caitlyn to keep her quiet haha :) L x

  • Ha, supposed to say ‘looks so lovely’ not looksa lovely :)

  • katie says:

It looks like it was a gorgeous day and you all looked stunning! Fully appreciate how stressful it all was – we got married with F was 16 months old and although it was lovely to have him there is added quite a bit of stress and a very short honeymoon!
    Love your dresses x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Katie, it was a lovely day and lots of lovely touches. It must have been nice having F with you though, definitely a lovely memory. x

  • What a perfect wedding and such gorgeous pictures. The photobooth pic is a keeper – special times. What a great idea on the cakes, very personal. Glad you all had an amazing time x Ax

  • Ahh they look gorgeous in their dresses! Tiger points at everything at the moment too, especially the biscuit cupboard! We went to a wedding last summer and decided we wouldn’t take them again if there was a choice, it’s just so hard to concentrate on anything other than them which makes it a bit pointless being there, Cherry shouted out something in the ceremony so Matt had to take her out! Gorgeous pics, that last one is the best photo ever! x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Jess, I really love the last one too. Weddings definitely aren’t the same with kids, we had a nice time but it wasn’t the same. x

  • Allie says:

Beautiful pictures, what an elegant wedding! Your family shot is amazing… love it! Weddings are def a diff experience with the kiddies in tow… lots of snacks helps!! xxx

  • Jenn @ TOB says:

Beautiful wedding and gorgeous pics (cuz of gorgeous people) :)

  • You all look amazing, you’re bridesmaid dress is gorgeous and a beautiful bride too. This has made me laugh though, we went to my very best friends wedding last month and Lucas was a page boy, we actually had to physically restrain him to get the suit on, it was a nightmare! Not quite the relaxing day I had hoped for! Luckily he made it down the aisle, lured by jelly tots but he looks a bit puffy eyed in the photos :) what a great idea with the desserts too, wish I has done that. Glad you had a nice time, even with the little bit off stress xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Sounds so similar to our experience Hayley, it was quite stressful and not the best start to the day. She looked beautiful once she had it one though. 😉 x

  • jenny paulin says:
