December is a very big deal in our house, and is by far my favourite month of the year. First up we have our wedding anniversary on the 20th, followed by Mads birthday on Christmas Eve and then of course Christmas itself. But the run up to it is just as special.
Although I love the heat and the sun, I have always adored the excitement of Christmas, that is why when we got engaged I was determined to have a wintery Christmas wedding.
This weekend we have been getting into the festive spirit, doing lots of festive activities and getting our house ready for Christmas. I am determined for Mads to find Christmas magical, especially cause the poor girl gets her birthday on Christmas Eve.
We have a few traditions that I want to make sure we do every year, as well as the obvious of helping decorate the tree, and putting a mince pie out for Father Christmas, we decided last year that she would always have a new pair of Xmas jammies, and that every year she could choose any decoration she wanted for the tree. Then when she leaves home she can take them with her for her own tree. I have a few from when I was a girl. She was a day old on Christmas 2010 and we bought her a baby’s first christmas bauble, but we don’t put it on the tree, it is in her memory box. Last year we obviously had to pick one for her and got her handprint on a bauble in the shape of a robin, but this year she chose her own!
Here are some photos of our festive weekend.
As part of our tradition we went to choose a decoration at the Garden Centre- Mads was allowed to choose any one she wanted.
Later that evening we went to the Christmas village Fayre to watch the lights get switched on- Mads loved her glowstick necklace!
On the Christmas ride with Daddy.
On Sunday we stayed in our PJ’s all day and did lots of festive things at home. We made sure Mads wore her new Christmas PJ’s…
Helping put fairy lights in our bedroom.
Chatting to the Xmas Bear who reads ‘The Night Before Christmas’ to you.
Helping put the decorations up.
Mads chose this silver heart as her decoration this year.
The finishing touch- the star on top of the tree. I remember my Dad lifting me up to put it on when I was a little girl.
Mads has a Peppa Pig advent calendar and Mummy and Daddy made this one for themselves.
She sat on the kitchen side and helped us make festive biscuits.
Our melted snowman biscuits.
I love those blurry Christmas tree light photos that you see so I decided to have a play around with my own.
All in all it was a lovely weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed setting some Christmas traditions firmly in place. Although Mads is still a bit too young to understand we are determined to make her birthday and Christmas extra special for her.
