Our little lady has been here just over a week and my goodness what a week it has been.
She has entered our world, turned it upside down and made our little family complete. I was a little bit nervous about having enough love to go around, but my heart is now completely divided into three- the love I have for my two girls, and my husband has just strengthened and grown.
I am so proud to be a Mama to these two little people.
Similar to my Bump Diaries, I have decided to do a weekly diary on the life of my little lady. To record all her milestones and take a photo of her a week. I constantly say to Mr E ‘What was Mads like at this and that?’ It is amazing how quickly you forget the early days so I want to make sure I have a record of what she is getting up too.
Without further ado here is the first of ‘The Baby Diaries.’
This Weeks News…
My little lady was born on the 11th February 2013 at 12.52pm via c-section weighing 8lb 12oz at 39+3 gestation. Her birth was wonderful, and I don’t for one second regret deciding to have an elective section over trying for a vbac. All that matters is she is here safely.
As yet her cord hasn’t come off, and she was weighed on Day 6 and has lost 9.5% of her birth weight, down from 8lb 12oz to 7lb 14oz so she will need to be weighed again early next week.
We had some newborn photos taken when she was 6 days old, and can’t wait to get them back and have a look at them, especially as I have been pretty rubbish at taking any photos with my big camera.
For the first two nights in hospital she slept quite well, but unfortunately I didn’t as I can never sleep in hospitals. Since we have been home her sleep has been pretty random- she sleeps all day and is awake all night. She sleeps peacefully all day, rarely waking apart from to feed, but at night she is feeding every single hour and not settling well at all. She doesn’t seem to like her moses basket but is getting better at going in there. The hourly feeds are making me very tired but hopefully she will start to stretch them out a bit longer, however she is a bit of a snacker when it comes to her milk. We bought her Ewan the Dream Sheep after hearing people recommend it on twitter and she does seem to like it and feel settled by it, he plays lullabies or actual noises from the womb. We still are generally settling her on us before putting her in her moses basket.
I am breastfeeding her, just like I did her sister. It doesn’t come naturally to me but I will certainly persevere. I am at the stage where it is hurting so much to feed, well when she latches on, and my nipples are cracked and sore. One was bleeding the other day. I think the main problem is we don’t get her latch perfect every time so then it hurts.
She also is a snacker, and doesn’t seem to be able to take any longer than a ten minute feed. We try stripping her off but it doesn’t make much difference. As such I am slightly worried about my supply but hopefully it will work itself out soon. She is generally feeding every two to three hours in the day and every hour to two hours at night, but only for ten minutes at a time. She is starting to get a little bit windy, she often has hiccups but she seems ok.
Being born is the big one of this week!
Blog wise, I have decided not to share her name, obviously people can guess what Mads name is (hint it is not Madison!) but I sometimes wish I had used a nickname so for the purposes of this blog my little girl no 2 will be known as LL. Two reasons for this, firstly they are the initials of her first and middle name and secondly because she is my little lady!
