These Kind Of Days…

After a couple of days in the big smoke for Brit Mums Live and a hectic few weekends, we were pleased to see that the sun was shining on Sunday and that we had no plans at all.  I can genuinely say that the weekends I enjoy the most are the ones when we actually just relax, take it easy and enjoy a slower pace of life.  We all thrive on these kind of days.

I genuinely think that picnics are my favourite part of summertime.  There is nothing better than packing some bits and heading out.  Plus no hoovering up crumbs from the carpet afterwards.  Winner.

june sunny day2

Little feet in flip flops- too cute.

june sunny day3

No sunny day would be complete without a trip to the park.

What is it about swings that just sum up childhood?  Perfect, happy innocent little faces.

She always has her own ice cream and then wants to ‘share’ everyone elses too.

june sunny day6

Does anyone elses child get ice cream everywhere?  We had to take her sunglasses off as she kept getting them covered in it!  Usually on these occasions I forget to bring wipes too.

After nap time we went over to my Mums for an early evening BBQ.  LL loves sitting up at the table and chatting with all the family.

Dancing to One Direction on Auntie Anna’s phone- this little girl loves to shake her bottom and dance.

A rare photo of Mr E and I that isn’t a selfie!

She is so proud of herself for walking, but still doesn’t have the confidence to just go on her own.

june sunny day13

Ssssh she totally didn’t have two ice creams in one day.  Honest.

What is it about babies in playsuits?  Just so cute!

Sitting on the grass having pudding with Grandma.

Her little personality is really starting to shine but she knows her own mind too- I thought she was going to be the quiet one but it seems that she is the more diva like of the two at the moment.

I don’t know what it is but these kind of days really make me reflect.  I sat in the sunshine with the heat beatiing down on my shoulders and watched my little family eat their picnic.  Mads was cuddling her Daddy, giggling non stop while feeding us all strawberries, LL was generally making a mess with everything she put in her mouth and I just sat back and felt this real feeling of contentment.  Life gets hectic sometimes, it doesn’t always go according to plan, but at the end of the day I have them.  I fight and bicker with my husband, I get incredibly frustrated with my children, we worry about money or boring things like bills and there are times when I feel guilty as I just feel a little grumpy for no real reason.

But on these kind of days you realise just how lucky you are to have a simple, ordinary life.

I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I think it’s because they are the quiet days – when you’re running around so fast you just don’t have time to catch your breath let alone stop and take a step back; the gentler pace of no-plan days just let your brain unwind and have a little think. And somehow it’s all easier outside isn’t it – we got back really late Sunday but still spent an hour or so sat out in the garden in the last dregs of the sunshine just to enjoy the fresh air!

  • Notmyyearoff says:

Ahhh those reflecting content moments are just the best aren’t they? I used to worry that I’m not content because I always feel I’m rushing about and going for that next thing but it’s on fleeting moments like these that I realise I am. Lovely photos 🙂

  • Katie those are such beautiful photos! Their eyes! Oh my goodness how do you stand how gorgeous they are!?

  • Donna says:

I absolutely love your photos and sunny days are the best kind of days. I spent saturday night in London and only got home sunday afternoon so we had a lazy afternoon! I love to sit in the sun taking a moment to reflect too – I wouldn’t change my ordinary life for anything either! x

  • LauraCYMFT says:

We love these kinds of days too. They are rare as usually one of us has to work at the weekend but that makes them even more special. You both have such gorgeous girls. x

  • LOVE a baby in a playsuit! Beautiful photos Katie. Our Sunday was like this too, playing about in the sunshine and I loved watching my lovely little family have fun together x

  • We are a huge fan of these days, nothing is better than the simple joys in life. spending time with those who mean the most to you!

Beautiful images Katie, may I ask what lens you use? and the colour is lovely. 🙂 x x

  • Karen says:

Beautiful photos Katie, love their little outfits & hats. We enjoy the simple pleasures like picnics and swings too. It’s great to just sit back sometimes and enjoy rather than think too much xx

  • Melanie says:

The days were no plans have been laid are always the best 🙂

  • mirari says:

what a beautiful family!!! the girls look so cute under the sun rays

  • Jenny says:

Oh Katie these photos are stunning. I know I always say that but maybe it’s the beautiful words that went all with these. Got me all choked up on how precious life can be with our families. You have a stunning family too by the way. Wish I could snap up great photos of my kids like you do. I need to come visit and you teach me. Beautiful words along side because the days there are no plans really are the best ones it seems. I can’t wait to have a day without plans and be with family so soon! ps you can never have enough ice cream in one day! lol Your girls have the bluest eyes I have ever seen. WOW!

  • Oh I love these days too…we NEED one of these days ourselves. I think we have this weekend to get out of the way first THEN we can hope for good weather an a quiet one the following week. Long.time.coming as things have just been NUTS over the month of June!
Your photos are so gorgeous as always and I love how your girls keep those hats on their heads too. Annabelle would never, haha. It would be off in 2secs flat! xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Debs, and yes I am pretty lucky they keep on hats. LL and hair clips on the other hand, is a complete different story. 😉 x

  • Stella says:

Lovely photos. I completely agree. Sometimes you just take a moment to realise everything is just as it should be. 🙂 xx

  • Carin says:

Such beautiful photos! I love those kind of days too (but right now I’m just amazed you managed to do anything on the Sunday- I walked around like a zombie!). The no pressure, let’s just enjoy each others company kind of days. Beautiful!

  • It’s that warm, bubbly feeling of gratefulness, isn’t it? When you see back and breath in those baby smells and little girl giggles, and you just want to stop time. I’m working through that at the moment… the wanting to stop time thing… knowing I need to begin to let go… and its so very, very hard. We have been the world to these little ones for the past three years, and come September, their world is going to get a whole lot bigger. Thank you so much for all you share here, Katie… I always find it so encouraging to know I’m not alone in these mixed up emotions of motherhood. And yes; the simple, ordinary life is just the best. I would not change my simple life for the world either. So genuinely lovely to meet you at the weekend; only wish there had been more time to really catch up with everyone I wanted to see… but so is life! Next year!

  • Saskia says:

I’ve always been an extremely driven and ambitious person, wanting for something big from life… but becoming a mum has made me feel that maybe an ordinary but completely content life IS something big? These kind of days really are perfect xx

  • Love all these photos, just sums up perfectly your relaxed sunny Sunday and especially lovely to see a nice one of you and Mr E. I don’t think I will ever get tired of seeing your gorgeous girls, they seem so full of character. We have had a few hectic weekends were I seem to have too many errands to run, I have no plans for this one and I’m hoping to keep it that way! xx

  • Leilani says:

Fun summer days! Your little one in that hat is sooooo adorable!

  • Awesome flip flops! And that ice cream is making me drool.

  • Gorgeous pics, I love the first one and the one of you and Mr E, I can’t remember who it was but someone said about how he looks like Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing and he really does! x

  • Hayley says:

Oh such gorgeous photos. I love those days too, I need one actually! I’m looking out of the window right now willing the sun to break through so we can go have a picnic in the park!

I love your words at the end. xxx

  • Ritz says:

your photos and blog makes me smile every time i visit your page! absolutely adorable girls with the most beautiful eyes xxx

  • katie says:

You have such beautiful girls Katie – Love the shot of LL with her head on her hands particularly, such a cheeky grin. Its funny you say that she is becoming a diva as S, who i thought was more chilled had a full on tantrum today and i had to drag him around screaming and writhing! I am now terrified i will have two live wires on my hands 😉
p.s Jim bough F some havianas home from Brazil and he won’t wear then, he is so scared of them he wont even try them on! x

  • Fritha says:

can you guys get any cuter?? It’s no wonder you won the family award lovely your blog is everything that is lovely about having and being in a family xx

  • Kara says:

How lovely of a day, pure happy memories for the future.
I love LL’s photos, her expressions are priceless xxx

  • I love those kind of days, and a big Yes my kids always want ice cream when ever they see it. Play suits on babies are so cute. Lovely photos as always

  • Such a beautiful family and you’re right, it’s so easy to get caught up in stuff and forget to appteciate just how lucky you are – I need to take a step back to remember that sometimes xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Definitely, obviously life gets in the way sometimes but it is good to take a step back and reflect and realise that ordinary life is pretty damn good sometimes.x

  • Katrina says:

Ok, ok, i keep saying the same thing in all my comments, BUT, you guys are such a cute (& ridiculously photogenic) family! My mission is to get more pics of bear & me, & some of mr Banana pants & I- I’ve got tons of Bear but not many of us all together :(.
& I’m with you on those chillax Sundays- In the UK, with our unpredictable weather, there is always such a pressure on a ‘sunny sunday’ that we all MUST make a day of it & battle it out with the crowds. Well, personally i think its beautiful to just chill in the garden….& let bear run around with no clothes on! haha.

    Fab pics hun xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Ha thanks, we aren’t that photogenic though, it’s just what you see on here! And I agree with you on the nuddy garden time- for the kids not us. 😉

  • Kerry says:

How cute are those Havaianas!!!? Gorgeous photos as always. LL is looking so much more grown up lately xx

  • Esther H says:

I sometimes feel guilty for being a bit grumpy for no reason! It is just completely ridiculous because I have everything and so much more than I could ever wish for. Then I feel guilty that I had to remember to be grateful! GORGEOUS pictures! x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

I think we all definitely think like that sometimes Esther, I know I do. Some days I pinch myself and think how lucky I am to have my completely boring, ordinary life but then sometimes I am grumpy for no reason. That’s life, we can’t help that. x

  • Alex {Bump to Baby} says:

Life is so precious. I absolutely love this post. x
