Me and Mine: A Family Portrait Project- August.

We are nearly in September.  Summer has passed as by and we are getting into Autumn.

August has been quite a chilled out month for us.  Of course we have had bits and pieces going on- family BBQ’s, trips out, and mini adventures, but on the whole our weekends have been pretty relaxed.

I don’t know what it is about my girls but they seem to thrive on a more relaxed way of life.  Of course they have fun if we go out and do exciting things but we all seem to enjoy a quieter pace.  On a Friday we ‘do’ something with friends each week and because it has been summer we have been going out and about to farms, maize mazes and teddy bears picnics.  While these are fun, the days I most enjoy are Tuesdays where we go for a long walk and go to our singing group.

The girls enjoy it just as much, even LL who is becoming a lot more interactive and interested in her surroundings, and they always somehow are better behaved when we don’t feel a pressure to have a good time.  We come home and they have a long snooze, and I relish these simple days together.

Would you believe that this months ‘Me and Mine’ portrait was taken in the middle of the month?

I know, me, who for the last few months has left the photo until the last day I possibly can!

This particular weekend was one of those relaxed weekends I talked about above.  One of those simple weekends that just flow well and where you don’t do anything in particular but you just feel happy and blessed.

The photo is taken in one of the meadows surrounding our estate.  We often walk around it, there are lots of open spaces and a few parks for Mads to enjoy.

As I walk around with the girls, I often think to myself how lucky we are to live where we do. I feel so incredibly lucky to own our own home, as I know so many people nowadays struggle to get on the property ladder.  It isn’t our forever home, but it is a home full of love, memories and it is ours.  I love where we live, and after being a bit of a flitter in my early twenties, it feels nice to be settled. I feel content.

The photo was taken with my recent way of setting up the tripod, putting the camera on self timer and then running back and forth in time to get back in the photo.  I keep meaning to buy a remote, but I actually think we have all grown fond of my wobbly bits running back and forth, and it never fails to make them all look at the camera!

Mads is pulling a silly face but it is kind of apt, as this is her face if you ask her to smile.  It’s her ‘cheese’ face!  She was as good as gold when we were taking these photos, especially as Mummy may have had some jelly babies lurking in her camera bag. Bribes are my speciality.

The light was gorgeous, with the sun quite low as it was about 10am and my girlies are wearing their trademark ‘matching but not matching outfits’.

A simple weekend.  A simple photograph.

But another one I will treasure.
