{The Ordinary Moments 15} #11 ‘A Topsy Turvy Week.’

It’s been one of those weeks here where it’s all just been a little bit all over the place- a little topsy turvy.  After a busy weekend last weekend, we moved and cleared all the furniture out of Mads and LL’s new rooms on Sunday evening to get it ready for our decorator to come and paint on the Monday.  He painted both rooms for us, including painting our new office space a colour which I decided I didn’t like. (so he had to come back the following the day to repaint over it- Mr E wasn’t impressed!)

Once the painting was done ‘Operation New Girls Room and New Office Space’ officially commenced.  Mr E has spent almost every evening this week building countless flat packed furniture, including wardrobes, chests of drawers and of course a new bunk bed.  It’s been a long week, and quite a tiring one too- I am not particularly good when the house is a mess and we have been wading under so much stuff- no room is safe from all the debris while we sort it out.

LL has been sleeping in a travel cot all week in her old room and Mads has been sleeping in our bed- while I have relished the week of cuddles, she also isn’t a particularly attractive bed partner- she kicks, snorts, plays with your ear constantly, and throws the cover off in the middle of the night.  She also has been getting up earlier in the morning’s, presumably because she is in the middle of us two. As such I have been a little tired and grumpy, we all have actually.

But the end is in sight and we are so excited.  Yesterday we spent the whole day putting things up, sorting things out and generally trying to get the house back to some sort of order.  Unfortunately LL is a little under the weather which is a shame because Saturday was going to be the first day we put them in the room together- however we have vetoed this idea due to her not being well, but Mads has her first night in the top bunk which she is incredibly excited about.

The photo below is from Wednesday morning when they awoke to discover that the bunk bed fairy had made the bed up for them overnight.  They were so excited, and so far we have been up and down the ladder so many times that I have lost count.  I am a little nervous about them sharing a room- mainly as they are such good sleepers and also because LL hasn’t slept in a bed before, but hopefully in a few days time I will be wondering why I was so worried.  Although I have a feeling there’s going to be some settling in issues along the way!  Either way I hope sharing a room will bring my sisters even closer than they were before.

  • Sounds like it’s all go, I loved the pic on instagram of their little book nook. Can’t wait to see when you’ve finished their room (no pressure, I know you put enough on yourself). Order will be restored soon and it’s all exciting for the girls – they’re going to love sharing a room #ordinarymoments

  • Sam says:

Oh I feel for Mr E. with all that flat pack building! It took me and my husband an entire day (we’ll maybe six hours) to build the boys’ bunk bed so extra furniture would have been mentally and physically draining I think! It was EJ’s first time in a big bed too although they were already sharing a room. I find that EJ has to be asleep before JJ can go in – otherwise he mucks about and climbs up on top and jumps on JJ who is normally pretty shattered by then. As long as he doesn’t have a daytime nap though, he is normally asleep by about 6.50 (as long as I’ve lain with him for a bit and sung some songs!). Good luck – I’m sure they will love it and, knowing your style, it will be a beautiful room too! X

  • Oh how exciting! We were so tempted to get bunk beds for H when we got his new bed and wish we had, so much fun. They look delighted. Can’t wait to see the finished rooms xx

  • Anna-Marie says:

Sounds like a very productive week! Its awful when its all a little “topsy turvy” I remember sorting Moo’s and H’s room out! I am sure its going to look gorgeous once its done!

  • We are in a two bed house and even though we’d like to move once Gwenn is in school (three years time-ish) who knows what the market will be like then and maybe we will be better off where we are. Because of that we’ve already discussed what we’d do if we had another baby, and bunk beds would probably be our best option too. I think I’d be on edge for a while because of the height thing, but kids absolutely love them, don’t they?! What’s not to love! It’s a bed that’s also a fort! x

    Thank you for hosting.

  • Awww what a lovely photo, bunk beds are amazing, lots of fun to be had, and they are almost a ready made den if you throw a sheet from top bunk to bottom! How kind of the bunk bed fairy to build them! Hehehe

  • Alex Bump to Baby says:

Ah I bet their finished room will look amazing and I bet they’ll be so pleased with it 🙂 Can’t wait to see it. xx

  • Jenny says:

Love the bunk beds. I had them with my siblings and loved it. At one point shared a room with my brother and sister and it was amazing. They will bond and be so close even more so promise. I can’t wait to see your rooms finished. You are the best decorator ever. I did the same thing to my master bedroom. I painted it three times three different colors because I didn’t like it. While MR P wasn’t impressed either I did the hard labor so I was mad at myself too. lol Hope you like it now. 🙂 Happy Mother’s Day (decorating) hahaha

  • Kerry says:

Cant wait to see the finished room. I have been wondering whether to do a shared room for my two when H is older but im not too sure if theres much point as they’ll have to have separate rooms again when they are a bit older. I would really like my office back though haha! xx

  • Nicola says:

So excited to see your new rooms, I am sure they will look fabulous like all of your other interior redesigns. Stay positive at least you didn’t have to live with the awful paint for more than 24hours now that would have been a disaster!! Enjoy putting the final touches together x

  • I’m sure, even if there are a couple of teething problems, they will love sharing a room! You never know, they might even stay in their room longer as they have company! Or is that just wishful thinking? Best of luck for the next few days 🙂 x

  • Carie says:

I think they’re going to love being in together – our plan is for bunk beds in the long run but we’re going to wait until Pip is big enough to need Kitty’s single bed and then rearrange the lot of them. I shared bunk beds with my sister when I was little and I absolutely loved it!

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

I hope so and yes that sounds like a plan to do it all in one go! In an ideal world we would have left it a bit later for LL to be more ready for a bit, but here’s hoping it won’t have been a mistake- we really need the office space as Mr E Is soon to be working from home. x

  • Sounds like you’ve had a super hectic week. Flat pack furniture is quite stress-inducing at the best of times! Hope the next week is calmer and the girls settle in well in their fab new room! Can’t wait to see what it looks like! Amelia x

  • Harriet says:

Ohh how exciting! I think we’ll eventually put Ava in a little bunk bed with drawers of a desk underneath to maximize space. Can’t wait to see what you’ve done with the rooms. I feel you, I’m kind of dreading moving into our new house and being amongst chaos!xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Harriet- yes I love those type of beds you are talking about! It will be chaos but it will be so worth it! x

  • They are going to have so much fun in a room together! It;s a little different for our twins because they have always been together but you’d be amazed what they can sleep through, they will get used to it. I can’t wait to see the new room, bunk beds are the most fun when you are little! xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Hayley, I hope so, aw and yes I can imagine it would be weird for your twins to be apart now! I always wanted a bunk bed when I was little! x

  • Tanita says:

Ah the bunk beds look lovely. Our two share a room, just waiting a couple months until we go for bunk beds. Cant wait to see the finished room the girls both look pleased x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Tanita, so far the bunk beds seem to be a big hit, although the youngest hasn’t actually slept in hers yet. 😉 x

  • Ah I bet they are so excited, its lovely that they get on and are excited about sharing a room together x

  • Ali says:

We’ve just spent the weekend redecorating the teenager’s room and haven’t seen him since!looking forward to seeing the finished result

  • Lina says:

I love re-arranging and redecorating it is so much fun, but like you I hate the house being a mess!! Good luck with the shared rooms. Our girls share but they constantly fight and I think because the age gap is much bigger and they are that bit older they actually need their own space more now.

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

I have no rooms left to decorate now which is very annoying! 😉 I am sure mine will fight as they do fight in general nowadays, but they love each other so much so I think it will be an amazing experience for them. x

  • I can’t wait to see the girls’ bedroom finished- it looks fantastic from what I’ve seen so far!! You’ve worked so hard on it too – they are lucky to have you as their mummy! Happy Mother’s Day! Nicki xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Nicki, I am so pleased with it and more importantly so are they- it’s turned out really great. I hope you had a great mothers day too. x

  • Ah bless them, I am sure they will love it! How exciting to have a proper office. Hope LL was o.k in the bed xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

It is so exciting being in an office, I am so chuffed with it! And LL hasn’t gone in her bed yet- oops! I am too nervous. 😉 x

  • How exciting for Mads and LL. They will both feel like such grown ups; Mads with the top bunk and LL being in a big bed. My little sisters shared a bedroom for a few years and they loved it (until my sister started secondary school anyway but that’s a while off yet for you 😉 !). Hope LL gets better soon and I am looking forward to the finished result. x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

I think hopefully it will bring them closer together and also yes definitely make them feel like grown ups! Thanks lovely. xx

  • Two very excited little people you have there! Little cuties. I remember G sleeping in a bunk bed when we first stayed at Alton Towers and he didn’t fall out miraculously. Hopefully they sleep well as they are together … Good luck! And I look forward to seeing your little makeover. Ps decorating is so much work isn’t it. Hopefully you’ll feel happier as soon as it is finished x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Mads has been in the bunk bed about a week now and she hasn’t fallen out yet but there is a large safety guard! LL hasn’t joined her yet as I am too nervous as she hasn’t been in a bed before. 😉 x

  • Emma says:

I think we have that exact same bunk bed!

  • I’m with you on the ‘not coping with a messy house very well’, it must have been so hard! Well done to your hubby for working so hard and for you coping with a toddler in your bed every night! They look super chuffed with their bunk beds 🙂 My girls used to share a room with bunks – we had some good nights and some not so good. Good luck! x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

We did work really hard for a week but luckily it is now done! Yay! And we are all chuffed to bits with our new rooms! x

  • Mary says:

How exciting! We have done nothing with our room since we bought this house almost 5 years ago and look forward to some home improvements VERY soon! We did get bunkbeds last month though (given to us – BONUS) and its brilliant! I hope they enjoy their new room sharing, bunk bed adventure! x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Ooh yay enjoy sorting your room out- I absolutely love doing interior projects! I am glad that the bunk beds are a success in your house too, here is hoping they will be in mine! x

  • Kate✚ says:

It’s so hard when everything’s upside down isn’t it? I feel your pain! Sounds like you got loads done though and the girls look so happy with their new bunk bed 🙂 Bet you’re really excited to have a new office space x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

I hate it, but luckily peace and order is now restored. 😉 I am so excited to have an office space. xx

  • Mummy Fever says:

Very exciting – we have a triple sleeper system set up ready for when the two smaller boys are older and one of them already tries to snuggle in with his big brother – very cute.

  • Looking forward to seeing the end result!!! Sure it’ll be fab and they’ll love sharing a room together! xx

  • I shall read with interest your bunk bed stories. My girl has some in her room and I really really want to them to share but I am too scared! My girl sleeps well but my boy doesn’t. So could be a disaster!!! Hope your house is getting sorted x

  • Exciting times. I love changing things but hate the process you have to go through to get there. Looking forward to seeing how you get in as we are considering the boys sharing a room and a bunk bed x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Yes it is a bit of a nightmare till you get everything back to normal isn’t it? I will let you know how I get on! Eek! x

  • You’ve had quite a week! It will be great for you to have a proper office and the girls look so excited to see their new bunk beds, I really hope they love sharing a room and that it brings them even closer together xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

We are so excited about our office space, it still hasn’t sunk in yet! I hope that sharing will be a lovely experience for them both! x

  • Honest Mum says:

Such exciting times ahead for you all lovely, how cute do your gorgeous girls look together, my boys adore sleeping together, would it be wrong to make Oliver’s room a walk in wardrobe?! :0 xx

  • Wow you’ve been busy parents!! My sister and I used to sleep in bunk beds, I was older so I got the top!! Cool idea. Enjoy your office space too – much needed when you work from home. You need the break. Jess xx

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Jess, yes I am loving our new office space so far it feels amazing to have our own space to work and it’s helping me switch off in the evenings too. x

  • Life at the Little Wood says:

I remember exactly the same paint dilemma happening with our hallway in our last house. I felt so bad getting the painter to redo it, but knew I’d hate it forevermore if we left it! Aww, they look pleased as punch in their new beds 🙂 My girls shared for three years and were brilliant in together. Annie really missed Eva at first when they got their own rooms again – I still think about moving them back! Xx

  • I thought I posted my comment ages ago! sorry! I hope LL is on the mend now, chicken pox has left the building for now… until it hits the little two! eeek! We made the transition to sharing with bunk beds for the girls too and they love it, so much so that we sometimes find they have sneaked in to one bed and curled up together to sleep, cute! wow, office space. something I craved and will hopefully get once we move in a couple of weeks! x

  • Super cute bunkbeds! I’m really interested to hear how the sleeping pans out with the girls. We’re not moving our two until September but already, I have my doubts. The littlest is still in his cot at the mo and I’m not in any rush to move him out of it yet. But, like you, I do like a reason to redecorate and move things round 🙂

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thanks Rachel, tonight is the first night but the littlest is still in her cot- I chickened out. I am sat listening to them giggling at the moment. 😉 x

  • Donna says:

Oh that photo is so gorgeous, they are going to adore sharing a room x

  • I love that picture of them on the bunkbeds Katie 🙂 At least it’s all sorted now- I am with you on not functioning well living in chaos, it really puts me on edge. I sympathise with you having a topsy turvey week! x

    • Mummy Daddy Me says:

Thank Becky, yes normal order has resumed now, and this is the first night of them going in the same room- although LL is in her cot as we chickened out of putting her in her big girl bed! x

  • Charlotte says:

I love the idea of a bunk bed fairy! Glad it’s all coming together for you. xx
