{The Ordinary Moments 15} #38 ‘A Weekend of Blogging.’

I have said time and time again that one of the best things to come out of starting my blog is the friendships I have made. Through blogging I have found some amazing women, who I just wouldn’t have had a chance to meet if it wasn’t through blogging. Women who are my support network, who I turn to for advice, for fun, for laughs, as a shoulder to cry on, and who I couldn’t imagine not having in my life now. But of course that isn’t the only thing to come from blogging- starting this little blog has enabled me to discover passions I didn’t know I had, become obsessed with documenting the life of my little family, I’ve managed to give up work and blog as the majority of my income, and also just generally find something that I absolutely love. There are weeks where I don’t love it as much as I should and where I lack inspiration, (at the moment actually!) but overall I absolutely adore my blog and it’s a huge part of my life.

Therefore I never need a weekend not to celebrate blogging and meet up with some of these wonderful friends. Last Friday night was the MAD Blog Awards, a glitzy and fun night out celebrating all that we love about blogging. I am lucky enough to have attended these awards a few times now, even winning an award twice before, but the main thing is that they are just a great chance to dress up and enjoy a evening celebrating something that we all have such a passion for.

So on Friday evening I found myself dressed up standing outside our hotel waiting for a taxi with my lovely friend Jenny. After a few minute drive we found ourselves at the Royal Garden Hotel and soon we were enjoying a drinks reception with some of my favourite blogging friends and others I hadn’t met before, but were just as lovely as their blogs suggested they would be.

Then it was time to sit down for a three course meal, which was delicious. I was sat next to Karen from Mini Travellers which was a pleasure, she is such a nice and genuine lady, before finally the awards started. I sadly didn’t win this year in either of my categories, Best Preschool Blog and Best Photography Blog, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a teeny bit disappointed. But it was literally a few seconds of disappointment before I was cheering for my friends in their respective categories. Every single person was a well deserved winner, with some of my favourite blogs being honoured, including Kerry, Karen, Becky and Helen. There were also lots in the finals that I would have loved to have won that didn’t and that’s the problem with awards, there were at least a few of my favourite blogs in each category. Special mentions go to one of my closest blogging friends Jenny who won her category Family Fun and also Katie from Hurrah for Gin who won Blog of the Year. Katie’s blog is amazing and I am SO thrilled she has finally been recognised with an award. It was an honour to be able to present it to her, even though I hate public speaking with a passion.

After some drinks and dancing, Jenny and I headed home to eat greasy pizza in bed, before finally getting to sleep about half three. The next morning we woke up and the sun was shining, so we enjoyed a hotel breakfast before taking a leisurely walk to Kings Rd in Chelsea. We then met up with Becky and enjoyed a lovely afternoon, including a late lunch, before heading home on our respective trains. It was such a nice day together.

All in all it was such a nice weekend with some amazing people. I am so proud of some of my friends for getting recognition, but of course there are lots of other bloggers out there which are just as fantastic who weren’t there. I say time and time again how thankful I am for blogging and what it has bought to my life, and I came away thinking that again this weekend. Although by the time my train pulled into the station I practically ran to the car where my babies were waiting with the biggest smiles. As to me they are the biggest prize anyone could ever ask for.

(I only took about two photos and the ones I did take were inevitably blurry as the light was so bad, so here is a photo of Jenny and I before the awards! I had such a fantastic time with her.)
