The run up to Christmas is a hectic time in lots of households, and ours is no exception. There are people to visit, presents to wrap and traditions to uphold. Add that to the usual routines of our daily week, and two young children to entertain, and life is pretty busy at the moment.
But in between the hectic times, are the quiet ones. Generally at the weekend we try and go out and about in the morning, before letting the girls have a snooze. When they wake up, they are usually still a little bit sleepy, and so we often snuggle up on the sofa under our ridiculously tatty but incredibly soft throw.
This is the position that you will find us in on many a weekend afternoon, except usually I am trying to fight for a little space on the sofa too. Mads has got really into films, with Toy Story being the current favourite. However because we are well and truly into the festive season we have been embracing the Christmas films. When I took this photo, they were snuggled up watching ‘The Polar Express’. They don’t normally last a whole film, generally getting restless and fidgety halfway through- this usually means that we end up watching the start of a film about ten times before we ever get to the end!
When Mads is tired, she will play with the nearest ear in vicinity and will suck her fingers, it’s a very endearing trait and one that never fails to make me smile when I catch her unawares and capture it on camera.
It’s just a very ordinary part of our life, but when we are all snuggled up on the sofa having a moment of quiet in the midst of a hectic week, there most certainly isn’t anywhere I would rather be.
