Pregnancy Style #1

on Wednesday, 05 September 2012.

When I was about half way through my pregnancy with Mads I started looking at clothes to cover my growing bump.  There was not much in the maternity sections that I liked.  Why just because you are pregnant does it give you an excuse to look like a 'Mum.'  Don't get me wrong, there are a few nice places to buy maternity clothes that don't cost the earth- think ASOS and Gap, but most of the ones I found were not me at all.

Therefore I mostly boycotted the maternity sections and lived in leggings and slightly bigger sizes in tops that I would have worn pre-Mads.  I think I bought a couple of maternity jumpers and tops and that was it.

This time I seem to be encountering the same problem.  My bump is big already so I am already out of my normal jeans.  This time I am open to suggestions, and I am determined to find a nice pair of pregnancy skinny jeans that don't have one of those over the bump panels.

My dilemma at the moment is that in certain clothes I don't look like like I have got a bump- more like I have eaten slightly too many burgers, so I have been wearing tight things that show it off.  Tight equals bump.  Baggy equals people at work trying to guess if I have had a 'big lunch.'

I most certainly don't claim to be the most stylish person in the world, far from it in fact, but this is what I have been clothing myself and the bump in over the last few weeks of my pregnancy.  It works for us, although Mr E has a bit of a phobia of patterned leggings.  He says I look like his Grandma.  If his Grandma had worn patterned leggings I would be very concerned.

NB. If anyone knows where to get a nice fitting pair of maternity skinny jeans please let me know.  You would be my saviour!  Or just nice maternity clothes.

Ps. Your bump is def showing its quite big but then you are very slim so I guess maybe it protrudes more due to this x x

    You look fab!
I mostly wore topshop/asos maternity and found the best jeans were topshop Baxter. The elastic is in the pockets with a normal waistband that sits under bump. Or you could go for Seven for all Mankind jeans as they do maternity and are an amazing fit but super expensive.
    Hope you find some! x

I have some lovely coloured jeans from Asos and some skinny jeans from Crave maternity too (for review but loving them) I only like the under bump style too . Tight vests are what I have been wearing at the moment too i a hope it looks more pregnant than pie.

Don't listen to Mr E - you look fab in your patterned leggings. I love Dorothy Perkins and New Look maternity ranges (but ASOS is the king) and a bit left field but the new Clements Ribeiro range at Evans have some lovely bits that could work?? xx

I had the exact same problem. I was sure that I had spied some lovely maternity clothes before I got pregnant for the second time...but then when I was and actually looked the selection on offer was rubbish. I gave up on maternity jeans in the end and was only comfy in leggings. Of course this isn't great for fashion! I did get some over the bump jeans from H&M as at the time I couldn't bear anything under my bump. They did have some quite trendy skinny jeans in there that were super soft xx

Aaahh you look gorgeous. Love your little bump. I have a pair of skinny jeans from next that fitted from start to end. Would recommend them. I didn't wear maternity tops this time as found fitted tee shirts made me look more pregnanthan fat. I have some gorgeous yoga pants, cami and pjs from Melba London that were gorgeous and would fit early on too xxx

Best jeans I found last time were actually at topshop. I couldn't find any nice maternity stuff but ended up buying a few bits and bobs from very online and then I just bought some tops and dressed in a bigger size. I remember buying a couple from River island and monsoon. I just hated all the checked shirts and things they make for pregnant women. Not sure who designs things like that!

You look fab! I love your brown trainers. I didn't buy any maternity clothes either last time, to be honest I would rather wear leggings then jeans with a stupid bit of material that covers the bump! Plus they charge stupid money for them! X

You look amazing! I am extremely envious that you look so lovely not only when pregnant but also when running around after a toddler too! I got some *amazing* maternity skinnies from H&M, honestly they are the best fitting jeans I have ever owned. They have the over bump bit BUT it's somehow different to most because it sits lower and is super comfortable. Definitely worth a try on :) x

I think you look fabulous! Really want those converse!
Yesterday I posted about my maternity essentials- I was really hesitant to spend money unnecessarily so kept to the basics but I've made some recommendations so would love it if you could have a peek..

loving your style. I am having the same prob and I was lucky last time, I got given lots by people but gave a lot of it back. Plus I was at the height of my pregnancy in the summer and this time it will be winter so I am dreading finding things! I got my maternity jeans from mamas and papas and next and I have been looking at ASOS, Seraphine, Next and H&M. Happy shopping! xxx
