On this day four years ago I married my best friend.

1461 days as Man and Wife.

That day was the best day of my life bar the days our little ladies were born. A Christmas wedding,  with snow on the ground, and lots of twinkly fairy lights.  An intimate ceremony, with 35 of the people we love most in the world, followed by a Christmas party with 100 people we are lucky enough to call our friends and family.

I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Exactly a year and four days later Mads arrived in our lives.  And twenty six months later so did our littlest girl.  It's been a whirlwind few years.

Our relationship has changed since having our girls.  We don't have as much time for each other, we are constantly tired, we bicker more, we rarely spend any time alone and our main focus is raising our daughters.

But we are closer.  We are a family.  We are ordinary, but we are happy.

I am so lucky to have my husband.  I am so, so proud of him, of us, and I know that he does a huge amount for us.  I couldn't have asked for a better man to raise my girls with.  He cooks, he comes home from work and runs me a bath so I can have a little relax, or he will bring home chocolate (always good) or send me happy texts.  He is the most caring and kind man I have ever met.  Even if he can't quite put the toilet roll in the bin when it is finished.

The below video is my favourite part of our wedding day, our last dance, which we requested to be Take Thats 'Never Forget'.  We didn't have a videographer, instead friends and family picked up the camera and videoed snippets of our day for us.  There are lots of funny bits, like video 'selfies', random conversations and drunken dancing that we just wouldn't have got if we had a videographer, although the footage is a little shaky!

We still don't know who actually was holding the camera during this song, all we know is that they obviously had one too many drinks and couldn't hold it still, but I am so thankful that they did pick up the camera at this point.  I love the fact that no one knows they are filming.

It sums up our whole wedding day- everyone was a little bit tipsy (p*ssed) as it was the end of the night and only a hardcore few were still up dancing.  I start crying halfway through because I knew our day was coming to an end and the emotions of such a special day just got the better of me.  I had had a fair few glasses of fizz at this point in my defence.

It's blurry, shaky, and cuts out half way through the very last song which was 'Fairytale of New York.' (My favourite Christmas song and one which we didn't realise was going to be played.)  I was also mortified because everyone got in a circle and held hands and made us dance in the middle.  I hate being the centre of attention, and had just about got through our first dance, only to have to do another one.

It's imperfect but it's happy.

Which I guess kind of sums up our marriage.

Happy Anniversary Mr E.  Here is to another four years.  And hopefully many more after that.

NB:  I can't dance to save my life.  Sorry about that.

My Little Love Story#1- The Day We Met.

on Tuesday, 17 January 2012.

I love my husband.  In fact you will often find me on twitter or on my blog babbling about the lovely little things he has done for me and Mads.  Don't get me wrong he isn't perfect- he has been promising me he will paint the banister for about 2 years and he is a little grumpy in the mornings, but overall he is very romantic and thoughtful.  Since Mads has come along we haven't had the money to treat each other as much but he still tries in his own little way to be romantic.  Therefore I thought I would do something for him, and for me, and write a series of posts all about 'Our Little Love Story', from the day we met to now.  I know he reads my blog (and he even commented once!) so I hope that he will read our story and smile.  Here is Part One- The Day We Met.

When I woke up on that normal, regular Tuesday morning in April 2005 I didn't know that this particular day would change the whole course of my life.  In fact I didn't know anything at all, except that I wanted pizza.

I was living in Leeds at the time, and was in my third year of university studying Sociology and Psychology.  I lived with four friends and my life consisted of going out drinking, eating, spending too much money and a little bit of studying.  Love was the last thing on my mind as I had just come out of a relationship with my first love.

I don't remember what the weather was like on that particular Tuesday, what I was wearing or what music I listened to while I was getting ready.  But I remember wanting pizza and trying to persuade my very good friend and housemate Claire to go into the city centre for lunch with me.  She couldn't afford it and in the end I suggested we go to a bar called BRB who did a two for one pizza deal- I would pay full price for mine and she could have the free one.

We arrived at the bar and sat in the kitchen/restaurant part.  For all the lusting over pizza, I can't remember what type I ordered but we soon realised that we couldn't smoke in the main part, and as at the time we both did, we decided to move into the front bar area.  While we there I noticed a A4 sheet of paper in the window stating that they had vacancies.  I told Claire that I was going to apply for a part time bartender job.

I don't know what it was that made me apply.  I didn't go to the bar on a regular basis, and I didn't really need a job as I should have been concentrating on my dissertation.  But before I knew it I had asked the man behind a bar for an application form.  He disappeared downstairs to print me one off and a couple of minutes later a tall blondy/brown haired man came up clutching the application form in his hands.  He explained that he was the manager and that they were holding interviews later on in the afternoon if I would like to come back then.  I thanked him and arranged a time to come back later.

A few hours later, back at home, I couldn't decide whether to go to the interview.  I didn't really need a job and wasn't fussed either way, I had done this before, had an interview planned and then changed my mind.  But something made me go.  I made my way there and was greeted by the blondy/brown haired man and another guy who I was told was the assistant manager.

I don't really remember the interview- after all it wasn't a huge deal to me at the time.  I remember the blondy/brown haired manager didn't really talk much but the assistant chatted to me and asked me questions about where I liked to go out and what music I liked.  The bar was right in the middle of the Leeds music scene and I think they were assessing whether I would fit in.  I can't remember how long I was in the interview for before it was time for me to leave.  I was invited back to a trial shift that Thursday evening.

I shook the assistant manager's hand and then shook the blondy/brown haired manager's hand, thanking them both and saying I would see them on Thursday.  And then I was off- back to my student house.

Little did I know that on that regular Tuesday afternoon in April 2005, I shook the hand of that blondy/brown haired man and touched my future husband for the first time.  And that my whole life was about to change...
