That’s right- you read it correctly, ‘Mummy Daddy and Me Makes Three’ won the award for ‘The Best Funny Mummy Blog’ at the Gurgles 2011 last night. Before I start I have to say that I am completely shocked that I was even nominated, let alone actually winning the award. I was up against some hugely popular bloggers whose blogs I greatly admire and I admit I honestly didn’t think I had any chance of winning. I have only been blogging six months so to win such a prestigious blogging award really has made me so happy.
For those of you that haven’t heard of Gurgle (is there anyone that hasn’t?!) they are part of the lovely people behind Mothercare and the Early Learning Centre and are a fabulous website and online community full of pregnancy, baby and child chatter.
But anyway back to ‘The Gurgles 2011.’ Originally it was supposed to be Mr E who was going to come with me to the awards ceremony but as the event drew closer we decided that it would be better for him to stay with Mads and for my sister to be my plus one. So last night, donned in our gladrags we made the journey into Central London to the Soho Hotel. The hotel itself was fantastic, very swanky and modern so we were very excited to head down and meet the Gurgle team and my fellow bloggers.
We made our way to the room in which the awards were being hosted and introduced ourselves to The Gurgle team who were all lovely and really friendly. We then met some of the other bloggers who were all fantastic and it was nice putting some faces to the blogs and and of course taking advantage of the lovely canapes and free wine circling the room. Think mini fish and chips, burgers, cupcakes and tiny ice cream cones- yum! It was lovely having a chat with people who normally you only know through a computer screen.
We were ushered into a rather swanky screening room and took our seats. Then the lovely Myleene Klass came into the room ready to present the awards. I am not normally someone who is particularly ‘starstruck’ by celebrities, after all they are just normal people, and I am not the type of person who would walk up to anyone who is out going about their business and ask for a picture, however on this particular occasion it was slightly different as Myleene was there as a Mum- she was incredibly down to earth and nice, and stayed and chatted to us after the ceremony rather than just leaving at the first possible opportunity.
Myleene read out the first few categories- first up was Best Mummy Fashion Blog and then Best Photography Blog which was won by the lovely Sonia from Mummy Loves. As she wasn’t there to collect her award I gave out a little whoop just for her! Then came the Best Daddy Blog and then it was my category- Best Funny Mummy Blog. Myleene read out third place and then second place at which point I thought I haven’t got a chance- when she read my name I was so shocked! Here is my ‘moment’ captured on camera, please excuse the dodgy filming by my sister who hadn’t got her phone ready as we didn’t think I was going to win!
I know I have said it before but I really do mean it when I say I did not think I stood a chance in winning. I know its not the Nobel Peace Prize or an Oscar but it does mean a lot to me to know that some crazy people out there like my blog and my writing, I enjoy writing it so much and it has fast become a passion of mine so all in all I am really happy to have won! Here I am below clutching my award and my wine!
After the awards were finished there was the raffle in which some amazing prizes were given out including a week’s holiday to any Kinder Hotel, and a £250 Mothercare Voucher. Unfortunately my luck had run out for the evening and we didn’t win anything, but my award meant the most anyway! We went back outside and had a couple of photo’s taken with the award winners and Myleene, drank a little bit more free vino and then headed off home with an absolutely fabulous goody bag- think BT Pacifiers, toys and Gurgle goodies and you will see what I mean!
All in all I had a fantastic evening and I am thrilled to have won a Gurgle award. Thanks so much to all the Gurgle team for such a fantastic night. I leave you with a couple of photos from the event.0
