‘Matching But Not Matching.’

When I found out at our 20 week scan that we were having another little girl, I had visions of two little girl’s in matching pretty dresses, running hand in hand and generally causing mischief.

When I said this to Mr E he looked at me in mock horror and muttered something about his Mum dressing him and his brother in matching outfits until they were far too old.

I wouldn’t dress them in matching outfits every day, and I wouldn’t dress them in exactly the same outfit but I am always on the hunt for similar items of clothing.  So say for example similar colours, or similar patterns, or perhaps the same style but in different designs.  I often search the shops for ‘matching but not too matching’ items!

The sun was shining the other weekend so we went out into the long grass and blew dandelions,   and generally enjoyed the afternoon sun.

After seeing our little girl’s in their ‘matching but not matching’ dresses, I don’t think even Mr E could deny that they looked rather cute.

NB- We were given these gorgeous, little checked cheesecloth dresses from Frugi, they make wonderful organic clothes for little one’s.  I am a little bit in love with their things and could actually buy the whole range.

Gorgeous! Me and my sister were dressed matching sometimes and I think it was really cute, I liked being the same as my big sis! I fully intend to dress my boys matching or co-ordinating on occasion 😀

  • Anna-Marie says:

I remember when I was younger and I was put in matching outfits to my sisters, not all the time just on special occasions. I always said I would never do it but I think if I had the chance I would. Not all the time mind.

I love what you do, matching them in similar things, tying in the colours but not the same outfits as such.

They are gorgeous dresses, perfect for these sunshine filled days -I’ve never heard of Frugi before. Might have a peek later!

  • Lauren says:

Oh my! The first and second photos are amazing.
When I look at dresses like these I am so grateful that I don’t have a girl. I would spend a fortune! x

  • Beautiful photos. As a mother of two boys, it’s a treat to see your little girls and what they are wearing. And you’re husband is pretty easy on the eye too 😉

  • Caroline says:

I love coordinating rather than identical outfits and imagine I’d do exactly the same if (when) I have a second child! They look lovely.

I also love Frugi. In fact, if I had to pick a single favourite outfit from all the ones Thomas has had so far, it would be a pair of Frugi dungarees. Sadly they were in size 3-6months and haven’t fit for almost a year. My husband rolled his eyes when he found out they were stocking Frugi in Kiddicare and has definitely steered me away from there when we’ve been in!

  • I just wish they did older sizes are my boys are too old now and I am guilty of dressing the boys in the same clothes!

  • Katie says:

Such beautiful photos and two beautiful little girls, it is so lovely to see them growing up together

    Katie xx

P.s. Evie has the little blue checked dress with the Jam pot on it! Its so cute x

  • Sophia Payne says:

GORGEOUS photos! – You may have persuaded me to buy that red hen dress too!
I’m a crusader for Frugi this year so you should take a look at applying next year, if you haven’t already done it.
I’ve got the code ROCCO that anyone new to Frugi can use for 15% off and free postage, or you can use another crusader’s code – polly.
    Brilliant stuff

  • Molly says:

  • Oh goodness both your girls are cute enough to eat!

  • Charlotte says:

I love your not matching but matching! It’s perfect! x

  • Kerry says:

Lovely photos! They are both so adorable!! xx

  • So cute! I love the photo of Mads and LL sitting In the grass together and those clothes are beautiful xx

  • That first photo is just perfection! The dresses are gorgeous and I need to find the boy equivalent!

  • THE cutest little red dress with applique birdies. Not sure my sons would appreciate it, though, dang it.

  • Kara says:

All my siblings and I (4 of us) were very often dressed matching, up until I was 11. I hated it but tbh I shall be doing it with my kids too, think it’s fair, much like you I am not sure if I will do full on the same but of a similar etc. We have a wedding in Oct and I shall have all 5 of us in the same colours certainly if I can.
These dresses are beautiful and they match Daddy too, I loved seeing LL in hers last week, the girls look so similar in the pics x
