A World Cup Party with Qatar Airways

What a summer we have been having and the children haven’t even broken up from school yet (unless you are in Scotland!). Here in the UK we have been having some sort of long running heatwave, there hasn’t been rain for a couple of weeks and the sun has shined every single day. To top that off the World Cup has turned even the most uninterested into football pundits- England well and truly got behind our team and it was such a pleasure to watch them do so well. I don’t know about anyone else but there has just been this sense of togetherness and happiness in the air- I reckon we definitely are going to have made lots of happy memories this summer and it hasn’t even properly started yet.

As you might already know if you have been reading this blog a long time, Mads is such a huge football fan. Not only does she love to play, she also likes to watch it as well so she has been counting down the days until the World Cup over the last few months. She has loved watching every match, especially when we let her and Lottie stay up late for the England games, so even though England unfortunately got knocked out there was no way she wasn’t going to watch the final.

A couple of weeks ago Qatar Airways got in touch to ask if we would like to have a little World Cup Final party. Of course we jumped at the chance, firstly because we were thrilled to be working with a brand on something so well suited to us as a family, and secondly because of course we love to travel we therefore thought it would be the perfect partnership.

In May 2017, Qatar Airways announced a ground breaking sponsorship deal with FIFA, which saw the award-winning airline become the Official Partner and Official Airline of FIFA until 2022. The partnership, one of the biggest sporting sponsorships in the world, sees Qatar Airways become the Official Airline Partner of the FIFA Club World Cup™, the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, the FIFA Under-20 and Under 17 World Cups™, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup™, and the FIFA Interactive World Cup™.

Maddie is already so excited for the Women’s World Cup next year which is being held in France, and we were so pleased to hear that Qatar Airways were also sponsoring that. As a carrier that is proud to connect people from around the globe, Qatar Airways understands the power of sport in bringing people together, and of course Qatar will be hosting the next World Cup in 2022.

But firstly back to this one. We decided to invite my sister and her boyfriend Jamie around for what we call ‘a snacky party’ tea- they have pretty much watched every single one of the England games with us over the last couple of weeks so it was only right that they watched the final with us too. We had a pretty even split, with myself, Anna and Lottie rooting on Croatia, while Jon, Jamie and Maddie wanted France to win. We settled down to watch the exciting match, before eating a yummy dinner during half time. We even got hold of a football cake and when we bought it in the supermarket the lady asked Maddie if it was her birthday- to which we replied no we just really like cake!

Here is our little World Cup Party in photos-

It was such a lovely day spent with family and such a great match. I have no idea where she gets it from, but I love the fact that Maddie is so passionate about football and slowly I am beginning to really enjoy it too. She kept saying that she wants to play for the World Cup and we said you never know we might see her playing in 2026, she would be 19 then. I don’t even want to think about it, I want to keep her as my little girl forever. But I genuinely love the fact that she loves football so much, it’s so special to see her passion and determination.

We loved having a little World Cup Final party and I can’t wait to see the exciting things that Qatar Airways and FIFA get up to in their sponsorship over the next few years. It’s the world’s fastest growing airline (and is multi award winning) and is adding new destinations to it’s growing network including Dubin, Nice, Sarajevo and many more. It’s been such a fun World Cup, with everyone coming together to enjoy the sport, and I have no doubt that the 2022 games held in Qatar will be even bigger and better.

NB: Thanks so much to Qatar Airlines for working with us on this post. We absolutely loved having a little World Cup Party. All opinions and content are entirely my own.
